Welcome to BOWERBIRDISM – An Architect’s Perspective on Collecting, Design and Display. As an architect, an interest in design is a natural part of my professional life. It is also a longtime and cherished part of my personal life. Perhaps as a consequence of this, I am a collector of sorts – although not an overly serious kind of collector. It would be more accurate to say that I dabble in collecting. I have a variety of fragmentary collections of various kinds and sizes, and I am often unable to resist the urge to acquire interesting objects when opportunities arise. I’ve come to understand that what I love most is the realization that I’ve found or identified something interesting, meaningful or uncommon. I enjoy learning about what motivates people to collect objects, which objects, and why. As an architect, I find it rewarding to be able to share the discovery of something special with others through thoughtful design and display. I hope to use this site as a way to capture and organize my own rambling thoughts on these subjects, and as a way to explore and share them with you.
